Malus spp.
Fall.

Bittersweet cider apple. From the Normandy region of France.

Makes a highly aromatic deep amber juice that is plenty bitter but also sweet and mellow. Rich and earthy with an astringent finish. (SG 1.056, acidity 0.19%, tannin 0.25%) A traditional bitter component of rustic Brittany-style cider (cidre Breton) and also suitable for a single varietal.

Medium-sized flattened fruit is golden-yellow with bright red blush.

Vigorous upright trees capable of heavy crops. One of John Bunker’s new favorites from his trial cider orchard in Palermo, ME. Midseason bloom. Zone 4.
