Malus spp.
Fall.

Bittersweet cider apple. Normandy, France, circa 1800.

Cream-colored flesh is coarse grained but soft and spongy, and presses into a richly colored and highly tannic juice balanced with a pleasant aroma and sweetness. (SG 1.046, acidity 0.19%, tannin 0.23%) Small-to-medium roundish-conical fruit almost entirely blushed red with some carmine stripes and brown russeting around the stem cavity.

Trees have been notably vigorous and precocious in our central Maine trial orchard, as well as showing strong disease resistance. Blooms late. Zone 4.
