Late fall.

Bittersharp cider apple. Seedling discovery by Steve Gougeon of Bear Swamp Orchard, Rowe, MA, around 2012.

Heavy annual bearer at Super Chilly Farm in Palermo, Maine, has become a favorite for late-season pressings. Dense flesh is lemon tart, moderately bitter and astringent. Small 2" round-conic fruit has greenish-yellow skin with an occasional pink blush. A splash of russet surrounds the long stem, with more scattered russet patches and netting around the apple.

Named after the generous family that gave Bear Swamp premission to free-range over the hillside covered with dozens of seedling apple trees to use for cider and brandy production. Blooms midseason. Zone 4.
