Fall.
Full bittersweet vintage cider apple. Brittany, France, 19th century.
Dry white flesh with a nice balance of sweet and bitter makes a high-quality juice with spicy vanilla and clove flavors and a lingering smoky bitter aftertaste. (SG 1.047, acidity 0.26%, tannin 0.3%) Complex enough for a single varietal cider and a major component of Calvados production in Normandy. Small-to-medium round-conic fruit with red stripes over yellow skin. Long thin stem set in a deep russeted cavity. Does not store long and should be pressed soon after harvest.
Heavy cropper with a biennial habit. Triploid: will not pollinate other varieties. Mid-late season blooms. Zone 4.
