Malus spp.
Fall.

Sussex, England, early 19th century. Truly one-of-a-kind apple, whose looks might scare most people away. But if you’ve got a soft spot for ugly fruit, you’re in for a treat!

Medium-sized, irregularly shaped and covered with bumps, knobs and warts. Greenish-yellow skin, sometimes with light orange streaks, is usually blotched with rough dark scabby russeting. Once you get past all that, you’re looking at a fine dessert apple with a lot of flavor. Fine-grained creamy-white flesh is rich, nutty and sweet. Great for fresh eating, cooking and pressing. Pick these scary-delicious apples just in time for Halloween. Stores for 4 months or more.

Hardy trees with fairly good disease resistance. Zone 4.
