Discovered by Maine plant breeder and grower emeritus John Meader in Holeb Township, an old logging camp along the Moose River near Jackman, ME. Fedco grower Seth Yentes grafted trees into his orchard where they began fruiting at a young age and are now bearing heavily. Extremely hardy, early ripening, medium-sized, round stripy fruit. Seth presumed this to be a seedling of Duchess and DNA profiling confirmed his hunch. Seth finds Holeb Station to be better fresh eating than Duchess: “Tart and sweet, spritely, crisp but tender flesh. Yum!” The other parent, Melba, is a Canadian cultivar, which makes sense given Holeb’s proximity to the border.
