Vaccinium vitis-idaea

5-9" Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences intro, 1999. Newer cultivar selected from an open-pollinated seedling of ‘Sanna’, a wild strain.

Strong producer of medium-sized bright red berries, wicked tart until dead ripe in late summer when they develop their excellent flavor, richer and less astringent than bog cranberries. Can be munched fresh but best in sauces, jams, syrups, fruit leathers, juices and wines. Stores up to 2 months in the fridge.

Spreading groundcover with shiny green leaves. Prefers poor acidic soil and full sun. Plant more than one variety, 12–18" apart, for good pollination and fruit set. Zone 2.
