Cephalanthus occidentalis6-10' × 8' Loose rounded branchy shrub with masses of unusual spherical fragrant white flowers that appear for 4–6 weeks in summer—a magnet for every honeybee around.
These highly ornamental blooms the size of ping-pong balls do well in dried flower arrangements. The seeds (nutlets) make good duck fodder in the fall.
Bright green foliage. Often found in masses along the shores of New England’s rivers and ponds but also suitable for well-drained soil. Recommended in hedges for naturalizing. Native from eastern U.S. to New Mexico. Z4. Maine Grown. (1-3' bare-root trees)
