Borago officinalis
(55 days) Open pollinated.

Annual. Bushy 2–3' plant bears many small flowers that open blue, turn purple and then pink and make colorful additions to salads.

Gloria Seigars suggests it as a great border for the vegetable garden where the dense plants smother weeds. Donna Dyrek favors it for attracting mason bees. Deb Soule recommends it for courage in these crazy times. Enjoy the cooling properties of very young leaves on a hot day. Frozen in ice cubes, it lends cucumber flavor to cold drinks. Borage leaves and flowers are used for fever, cough, depression and to prevent inflammation of the lungs. A nourishing tea for nursing mothers, and also a sedative.

Likes full sun, prefers moist well-drained soil, will self sow. Young plants are easy to move around. Survives light frosts. About 50 seeds/g.
