Sambucus canadensis

4-10' × same. (Ezyoff × Adams No. 2) NY Ag Exp Stn, 1964.

An old reliable, considered by some to be the largest-fruited and heaviest-bearing cultivar. Heavy clusters of mildly tart large berries that ripen after Adams are easy to pick and excellent for jam, jelly, wine and pie.

In most of our Maine trials, this shrub is more compact than Adams No. 1, topping out at 4–5', but we’ve seen a 10' specimen growing on a compost pile. Persistent and will bear well for many years alongside other varieties. Bright green foliage on a rounded shrub. Zone 3.

Maine Grown.
