‘Cardinal de Richelieu’ Rose

Rosa gallica 2-3' × 3-4' Laffay, France, 1840.

Unparalleled fragrant deep purple-burgundy very double 3" blooms in midsummer. Densely petaled flowers hold their fragrance and can be dried whole for potpourri. Smooth green foliage. Bushy and smooth stemmed. One of our all-time favorites here at Fedco. Rugged and easy to grow. Blooms on old canes, so little pruning or maintenance required. Soil adaptable. Sun or partial shade. Blooms in early to mid-June for about a month in central Maine. Disease and pest resistant. Z3/4. BACK! (9–18" bare-root plants)

Small Trees and Shrubs

As Green’s Nursery catalog from 1904 explains, “There are many trees that by pruning can be made to resemble shrubs, and many shrubs that by different pruning may be made to produce medium-sized trees.”
