Late summer, red-purple skin, red-purple flesh.

Elwyn Meader intro, Enfield, NH, 1968.

Clingstone fruit with red-purple skin and flesh is medium-sized with complex flavor. Very sweet with strong notes of apple. Some tartness only near the pit or skin when not fully ripe. Some say the most delicious plum we offer. It’s certainly the most beautiful. Meaty, mild and rich with no astringency.

Origins shrouded in mystery. It was brought to the great plant breeder Professor Elwyn Meader by a fellow who passed away before Meader could ascertain the plum’s origin.

Although we once reported it to be less hardy than other hybrids, we saw no tip or even branch damage following recent colder winters in central Maine. Some resistance to black knot. Elegant spreading sparsely branched habit. Black Ice, La Crescent, Toka and Underwood all seem to be good pollinators in our trials. Zone 4/5.
