Oryza sativa
(120 days) Open pollinated.

A landrace lowland variety from northern Japan, Yukimochi is a pearly white short-grain sweet-sticky rice—think mochi! The cooked grain fries well and is great for leftovers. Grows best in well-saturated soil. Doesn’t require flooding or paddies, but they help. In Zone 5b it can be grown from direct sowing but does best from transplants. Our rice seed is grown in Midcoast Maine at Ararat Farms. Ben Rooney and the Maine Rice Project have been growing rice for Fedco for over 10 years.
