Rosa gallica

3x2' One of the oldest gallicas; has been in cultivation since the 14th century. Often referred to as the Old Velvet Rose.

Fragrant dark crimson double 2–3" flowers are blushed blackish purple surrounding prominent golden-yellow stamens. This is the original Tuscany rose, which has fewer petals than its more commonly seen sport Tuscany Superba. Foliage is greenish grey and rough in texture. Displays its strikingly dark aromatic flowers once each summer. Plant it nearby where it can be closely admired. Adaptable and needs little maintenance. Z4.
