‘Nikko Blue’ Hydrangea

Hydrangea macrophylla 4-6' × same.

Globular panicles of blue florets are remarkably blue. A real standout in the landscape for those of you inclined toward making a color statement in your garden! They may be pink in less acidic soils. Adding aluminum sulfate to the soil in late autumn or early spring will encourage deep blue color, while adding lime will make the flowers pinker. Makes a playful standout hedge with blooms from June through August.

Small rounded shrub fits well in smaller landscapes. Dark green serrated leaves. Prefers well-drained consistently moist acidic soil and part shade. The “hydra-” in hydrangea means that it would love to have its roots mulched and for its sun exposure to be early in the day and not sit in the hot afternoon sun. Z5. NEW! (1–3' bare-root plants)
