Rosa

6-7' × same. Rosa kordesii hybrid × seedling. Explorer Series, Dr. Felicitas Svejda, Ottawa, 1984. One of the best hardy climbing or, more accurately, long-caned varieties for colder climates.

Vivid velvety deep red-pink semi-double 3" blooms with brilliant golden stamens will gussy up any post or trellis. Repeat bloomer with modest spicy fragrance. Shiny deep bluish-green foliage. Tie the long arching canes to a trellis or arbor, or let them reach low across the garden. Branches can be left to overwinter with minimal, if any, winter damage. Ours survived –20° with no problem.

Named after Boy Kelsey, explorer of the Canadian prairies in the late 1600s. Disease and mildew resistant. Zone 3.

Grown using organic methods—not treated with synthetic fertilizers or chemical sprays.
