Brilliant vivid blue flowers with highly contrasted, distinct white centers (“bees”) are densely packed along terminal spikes above palmate glossy green foliage. There’s a reason delphies never go out of style—the blooms seem to flicker with ultraviolet light if you stare at them in their summer glory, yet for all their intensity, they lend an old-time elegance to the garden. They make great cutflowers, but leave some standing for the butterflies.
Full sun to part shade. Prefers well-drained but evenly moist soils. Mulch in hot or dry seasons. Midsummer blooms. Zone 3.
