5-12' × 4-8' Our other native hazelnut, from Newfoundland to Ontario and south. The smallest nuts of all the hazels but tasty nonetheless. We’ve harvested them on the edge of woods in northern Maine during fall canoe trips and roasted them in an iron pan over the fire. Delicious. Similar to the American hazel but the bracts are prickly and pointed like a bird’s beak. Zone 3.
