Bells of Ireland

Moluccella laevis
(110 days) Annual, everlasting. Spikes of bright green bell-shaped “flowers” atop 2½' branching stems. Each green bell is really a showy inflated calyx with a tiny pinkish flower inside. Often dried for winter arrangements; when dried, bells turn creamy white. Likes partial shade; thrives in cool climates. Needs light to germinate. Will self-sow. About 140 seeds/g.
