A family business founded in 1920 in Randolph, Vermont, Green Mountain started out making embroidered silk dress gloves but soon developed a specialty in heavy-duty leather work gloves. Two customers contacted us in 2017 after NPR ran a story about the company’s struggle to survive in an era of cheap imported competition: they were down to one sewing machine and four employees producing twenty dozen gloves a month, with no promise of a successor for the aging owner. Cheeringly, the company found a young successor after all, who shares his predecessors’ values but has also revamped the company’s online presence and branding (including a name change). The company’s Luddite quirkiness and devotion to quality in a world that cuts corners, ignores human costs, and demands uniformity seemed to fit in with Fedco's values like hand and glove. And, like Fedco, Vermont Glove runs on solar energy! Use with thin wool liners for extra warmth.
