Salix sachalinensis ‘Sekka’
Reddish golden skin.

10-15' x same or wider. Male clone, Japan, before 1700.

Fantastic wide dense spreading disheveled shrub with beautiful branches full of oblong catkins. When the plant is left to mature it will start to form some highly ornamental fasciated (“fantail”) stems. Harvest the long reddish-golden stems in winter for dry arrangements that will last for years.

Yellow catkins in the spring make good pollinator forage. Glossy green summer foliage turns yellow in fall.

Makes a great fast growing hedge or low windbreak. Trim it back any time of year. Highly adaptable; you can grow it anywhere. Prefers full sun. The only deer resistant pussy willow! Native to Japan. Maine grown at Dandy Ram Farm. Z4.
