Heliopsis helianthoides

3–5' tall. Also called False Sunflower, Eastern Ox-eye and Ox-eye Sunflower.

Bright golden-yellow 3" flowers on long sturdy stems resemble small sunflowers. This Northeast native wildflower is wonderful for wild places and informal borders where it attracts all manner of pollinators, including clearwing moths and leafcutter bees, and provides fall forage for birds when it goes to seed. Also a larval host plant for some species of crescent butterflies. Durable and showy, it blooms from July through September.

Plant it off on its own, or with other vigorous perennials—it has the ability to crowd out its neighbors. Likes full sun and heat, tolerates wet conditions, is generally adaptable. Plant 24" apart. Zone 3.

Maine Grown.
