Iris sibirica

34" tall. Okay folks, truth be told, the standards and falls are not really crimson. They are more of a deep magenta-purple with prominent white signals and dramatic blue vein flashes just outside the signal, outlined by a fine white rim. This ruffled variety knocked our socks off with its surprising saturated color. Mid to late season blooms. Z3.

Iris

Iris is the name of the Greek goddess of the Rainbow and of this large genus of beautiful flowers in a range of sizes and a rainbow of colors. Growing from bulbs or fleshy rhizomatous roots, irises are superb for cutting and borders. For all iris, “standards” are the three erect petals; “falls” are the three pendent, reflexed or spreading petals. The blaze of contrasting color is the “crest,” “blotch” or “signal.” Most irises prefer sun or dappled shade with moderately fertile well-drained soil. All bulbous irises we stock prefer dry soils when dormant in summer.

Siberian Iris

In late June, delicate flowers dance above tall slender slate-green foliage that looks good all summer. Tolerates most conditions, but performs best in rich moist acid soil.

Plant 18" apart in full sun or partial shade. Give them room to spread, and divide clumps every few years.

Herbaceous Perennial Plants

When you receive your order, open the bags and check the stock immediately. Roots and crowns should be firm and pliable. Surface mold is harmless and will not affect the plant’s future performance. Store plants in their packaging in a cool (35–40°) location until you are ready to plant. If it’s going to be awhile, you can pot up your perennials.

Do not plant bare-root perennial plant crowns directly outdoors before danger of frost has passed. Wet and/or cold conditions for an extended period may cause rotting.

Items from our perennial plants warehouse ordered on or before February 20 will ship from March through early May, starting with warmer areas and finishing in colder areas.

Orders placed after February 20 will ship from April to May.
