White Cloud Crabapple

Malus Seedling. Lyle Littlefield Garden, Orono, Maine.

On one of our annual trips to the Lyle Littlefield Garden, director Brad Libby pointed out this seedling as a personal favorite. We can see why: forms a white cloud of blooms every year, visible from across the arboretum. White Cloud is a fitting name! The buds begin light pink, then fade to a soft yellow just before opening to white. The effect is astonishing—soft green, white and yellow. Single blooms with golden yellow stamens in the center. Yellow-green foliage.

Upright form with semi-weeping branches. Not a big tree. Fedco exclusive. Z3. Maine Grown. (Semi-dwarf: 2½-5' bare-root trees)
