‘Scharlachglut’ Rose

Rosa 8-13' x 5-8' R. kordesii hybrid. Poinsetta x Alika (R. gallica grandiflora) Kordes, Germany, 1952.

Large arching shrub with scarlet single-petaled 3" blossoms. Name is German for ‘Scarlet Glow,’ which sums up the overall effect: vivid red petals surrounding a golden crown of stamens contrast attractively against deep lush green-red foliage. Large orange urn-shaped hips in fall.

Most often grown as a shrub rose but could also be trained to a post or arbor. Can be pruned back heavily each year to maintain size and form. Prefers full sun but will flower in partial shade. Disease resistant. Z4. (9-18" bare-root plants)
