MalusSeeds from most apples will grow into unique trees with different characteristics than the parents, but Antonovka seed grows very true to type, retaining the cold hardiness and disease resistance that make it such a good rootstock for cold climates. The full-sized “standard” apple trees we sell are grafted onto Antonovka seedlings. The apples themselves, sometimes called “the people’s apple,” are very popular in Russia for fresh eating and cooking. Antonovka apples are celebrated in Russian literature and immortalized by a huge apple monument in the city of Kursk. Start your own rootstock to graft other varieties onto, or grow out Antonovka trees for their tart greenish-yellow fruit, extremely hardy and scab resistant.
Seed-starting instructions will be included with every purchase of tree seeds.
