Jonagold Apple ScionwoodThis is a twig for grafting. Fall. NY 43013-1 (Golden Delicious x Jonathan) NY Stn, 1968. An all-purpose variety grown commercially in central and southern New England. May excel in warmer parts of Maine. Large round-conic yellow fruit mostly covered with light scarlet stripes is sweet, wonderful, firm, crisp, very aromatic. Excels both for fresh eating and for cooking. Makes an especially wonderful applesauce. The mailorder company “Applesource” rates Jonagold’s flavor as “A+”. Vigorous very productive medium-sized tree has few growing problems. Branches need little training. Should be eaten soon after harvest. Stores only until December. Triploid; will not pollinate other varieties. Because of its long blooming season it may be more susceptible to fireblight than some varieties. Blooms midseason. Z4-6.
