Radish, Tillage
8094 Radish, Tillage OG Raphanus sativus var. niger A cover crop Daikon radish bred for improved taproot performance. Penetrates hardpans and loosens soil down to 30'' or beyond. Excellent scavenger crop: takes up available nutrients in the soil and prevents nutrient losses to leaching or runoff. Germinates quickly. Suppresses weeds if planted thickly.

Winterkill occurs when several consecutive nights are in the low 20s. Leave plants in the ground all winter and into spring: roots decompose leaving large holes that fill with rainwater, eliminating runoff and trapping sediment. Decomposed root and leaf matter release nutrients and increase microbial activity in the soil, contributing to increased yields in crops that follow. Plant in early September for maximum benefit. Can be planted as late as October in mid-Atlantic states. Do not plant in spring: the plants will bolt before they form taproots. Drill at 8–10#/acre or broadcast at 10–15#/acre, ½# per 1000 sq ft. PVP. Certified organic.

Note: We cannot ship packets greater than ½ oz. (14 grams) of any Brassica into the Willamette Valley. The State of Oregon prohibits shipping any commercial quantity of untreated Brassica, Raphanus or Sinapis because of a quarantine to control Blackleg.

Additional Information

Farm Seed

Unless otherwise noted, our legume seed is sold “raw”: it has not been inoculated with the appropriate bacteria in a process called rhizocoating.

Organic Seed

We are a MOFGA-certified organic repacker and handler of seed and feed.
All our seed is untreated.

Organically grown seed is labeled OG.
The label ECO after the variety name describes non-certified seed grown without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers on farms which maintain an active soil-building program. Some farmers eschew certification for a variety of reasons, ideological, economic and otherwise.
